As we have sites stretching from Salgesch to Goms, we are able to guarantee short transport routes.
Under second-generation management and integrated into the Volken Group, the cement plant has been transformed into a modern operation. The plant in Gamsen specialises primarily in prefabricated products of the highest quality for civil engineering and building construction: for bridges, roads and special element constructions.
Originally, the plant supplied natural stone in winter, which was then used from spring to autumn – in building construction where walls 50-60 cm thick needed to be raised, for example. Nowadays, this natural stone is replaced by concrete blocks and hollow cement blocks. This profession still runs through the blood of the current managing director, Klaus Kalbermatten, whose father founded and developed the company in 1951.
The Gamsen cement plant's success is no coincidence: on the one hand, management attaches great importance to personal consultation, customer proximity and a wide range of products. On the other hand, the cement plant only employs qualified employees with many years of experience. And, last but not least, they use natural raw material from the Massa, which has ideal properties.

Compared to its size, the Gamsen cement factory offers a comprehensive range in every conceivable design. Here, even private clients with individual requirements receive first-class advice and can count on tailor-made products of all kinds. In addition to solid products, gravel, mortar and concrete can also be purchased here.
Gamsen is located in the middle of the Upper Valais between Visp and Brig – the perfect location to access customers easily via Kantonsstrasse or the A9 motorway in the side valleys of the canton.

Prefabricated elements shorten the construction time enormously. Typically, the client appreciates this in particular. Prefabricated elements require planners, architects and engineers to rethink their approach right from the drawing board, however.

As the production of concrete and cement products cannot be fully automated, even in Gamsen much of the work at the plant is still done by hand. This applies to standard forms as well as to products that are individually tailored to customers' requirements.

Only experts – those who are truly masters of their craft and give their all, day after day – work here. The well-coordinated team sets to work with many years of experience under its belt, and delivers high-quality products that can be relied on in construction.
With the concrete-spreading crane, stairs can be manufactured according to various sizes and according to an exact standard, and the stairs can be produced with an integrated landing. These prefabricated elements also noticeably shorten construction times and reduce the construction costs of buildings for private individuals, businesses and the public.

The Massa – Rhône's seven-kilometre-long lateral watercourse – transports bedload and glacial moraines when the dam above flushes: ideal raw materials for concrete. This Aare granite, which only occurs in the vicinity of the large Aletsch glacier, is more resistant generally, more acid-resistant and more pressure-resistant than the materials otherwise exploited in the Valais because it does not contain much lime or mica.

Machines can do many things, but by no means everything. That is why many products and prefabricated parts are still made by hand at the Gamsen cement factory: Individual products are manufactured in wooden casings, and mass products in steel forms.
With a high level of technical knowledge and state-of-the-art production techniques, here the Volken Group produces versatile concrete and cement products in every conceivable design – from pipes and shafts for civil engineering, to surface pavements such as paving stones or garden slabs, to elements for building construction such as hollow cement blocks and solid concrete blocks, columns, parapet elements or stairs.
In addition to Swiss nationals, Italians who commute across the border are also employed at Gamsen – some of them are the third generation already. In addition to a strong sense of duty, they all bring a great deal of professionalism and flexibility to the table and have access to highly specialised machinery.
