Thousands of tonnes of that which Switzerland's largest glacier has been grinding, releasing and washing through the Massa gorge to the Rhone valley since time immemorial - that is what Volken Group extracts and sells at this gravel plant located at the entrance to the municipality of Bitsch.
The Aletsch glacier delivers
Due to its round form, this mineral raw material is extremely durable and sought after. Another reason why it is so coveted is that it is rarely found in the area and the canton. Aare granite can only be found in the area surrounding the large Aletsch glacier. It is more resistant, acid-proof and pressure-resistant than other materials extracted in Valais. That is because it contains very little lime and hardly any mica. It is processed into high-quality sand and gravel in Bitsch. The aggregates that result from this process are very well suited to the production of concrete.

One valuable load after another
The first-rate extracted gravel makes its way from the conveyor belt to the plant, where it is crushed and washed. After it has been sorted into different piles, it is separated and stored according to size. Volken Group's high-performance commercial vehicles then transport the processed construction materials to their destination.
