Before the mountain comes: rockfall protection

To ensure that the village of Kalpetran and the tracks of the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway continue to be protected from rockfall in the future, the Volken Group is implementing various elements by autumn 2024. The existing construction road will be extended to a width of 3.5 m so that the earth embankment can be raised and optimized over a length of around 200 m - with an earth-reinforced support structure and a block camber. In this danger zone, work can only be carried out in good weather; in addition, access over the MGB tracks is only possible with a 3-axle truck.
