Everything in one piece in 18 hours: Riedberg tunnel portal
At the end of 2024, after eight years of construction, they are to be opened, the two tunnel tubes through the Riedberg, which are over 500 meters long. The structure of the A9 serves as a bypass at the bottleneck Gampel/Steg railroad station. Recently, the Volken Group together with the ARGE Tunnel Riedberg completed the first portal block - in only 18 hours, with 372 m3 of concrete from powerful truck mixers, a truck-mounted concrete pump of 36 m length and further heavy equipment. The challenge here was to relieve the formwork pressure due to the immense component thickness and to complete the portal in one pour.
