Full throttle through three nights: pavement construction

The best time to renovate a cantonal road is when there is little traffic: at night. In Raron, the road builders from Voweg, a Volken Group company, recently put in three night shifts. After a four-centimetre-thick layer of the old pavement was milled off in the first shift, the experts installed around 200 tons of two-centimetre-thick reprofiling the next day. This was because it had become apparent that the base layer was badly damaged and needed to be leveled. Last night, four trucks and special machines were used to apply the 500 tons of surface course.
