Safely over the Simplon: repair of the Casermetta tunnel.

It has been in operation since 1970 and is now being renewed and restored - the Casermetta Tunnel above Gondo. The Volken Group is also involved in this major project under the auspices of the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) from the beginning of 2022 until the end of 2026. The entire section including galleries, two bridges and open stretches will be repaired together with Frutiger AG. The damaged concrete surfaces will be removed by ultra-high pressure water jetting. The resulting wastewater will be disposed of in an environmentally compatible manner. In some cases, the structures have to be structurally strengthened with additional reinforcement to bring them up to current standards. Subsequently, the reinforcement is protected with an AAR-resistant pre- or over-concrete, which is subsequently protected with a surface coating in the sprayed and sprayed areas.
In the course of the rehabilitation, the drainage lines will be rebuilt and the cable conduit systems will be adapted to current requirements. The work is being carried out under traffic, which places high demands on safety.
