Zermatt

Turmwang rockfall protection dam

A new earth dam is being built in Zermatt, which in future will protect the Täsch-Zermatt section of the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway from avalanches and rockfall. The construction work for the rockfall protection dam is being carried out by the Volken Group using an earth-reinforced supporting structure with a length of 130m and a height of 4.5m. With 34 years of experience as a machine operator, Beat Garbely is confident that he will be able to master the challenge without any problems. Thanks to the modern machinery, which is equipped with CAT Grade technology, the removal of the humus and the backfilling can be carried out efficiently and ecologically.
