Turtmann

To keep the traffic flowing as well: Replacement bridge Turtmänna 2

The Turtmänna Bridge is part of the road that connects Turtmann with Unterems. Currently, the heavily used structure is being replaced by the Volken Group - with a 50 cm thick bridge slab and a new alignment for the wider road. To ensure that traffic can run smoothly until completion in June, a single-lane temporary structure is being built for the stream crossing. Underneath, the water flows through 130 m long pipelines with inlet and control shafts. The shoring is being provided by Volken Gerüstbau AG, while the surfacing work is being carried out by Voweg AG. The project requires 1500 m3 of material to be removed and 270 m3 of in-situ concrete and 25 t of reinforcement to be placed. Two excavators with 33 and 8 tons respectively and small dumpers are in use. Caution is required every day, as the work is partly carried out in the water, and natural hazards such as a sudden swelling of the Turtmänna can never be completely ruled out.
