Turtmann

To keep the traffic flowing: Turtmänna 2 replacement bridge

The Turtmänna Bridge is also part of the road that connects Turtmann with Unterems. The Volken Group is currently replacing the heavily used structure - with a 50 cm thick bridge deck and a new alignment for the wider road. To ensure that traffic can run smoothly until completion in June, a single-lane temporary structure is being built for the stream crossing. Underneath, the water flows through 130 m long pipes with inlet and inspection shafts. The shoring is being provided by Volken Gerüstbau AG, while the surfacing work is being carried out by Voweg AG. To complete the project, 1500 m3 of material has to be removed and 270 m3 of in-situ concrete and 25 tons of reinforcement installed. Two excavators with 33 and 8 tons respectively and small dumpers are being used. Caution is required every day, as some of the work is being carried out in water, and natural hazards such as a sudden swelling of the Turtmänna can never be completely ruled out.
