Project description:

The project involves the construction of the SABA GERA near Raron railway station, along the covered Raron cutting. An excavation pit enclosure was required for the construction of the settling basin. The concrete structure was built in two stages: the first stage involved the actual basin, and the second stage involved the inlet section and distributor after the first stage had been filled in. The infiltration basin, whose bottom has a permeability of 1.2 l/sm2, consists of three types of material:

  • 65 cm of backfill material consisting of upper Rhone gravel and sand 65 cm
  • 40 cm unbound mixture 0/45, natural material, no recycled material
  • 60 cm sand 0/2

Planting facilitates water infiltration. The inlet to the settling basin has been equipped with a slide valve and a bypass. A second bypass at the end of the settling basin completes the equipment.

Requirements:

  • Short construction time
  • Groundwater
  • Work along SBB and high-voltage power lines

Special features:

  • An RC gravel mixture B 0/45 <5% fine content was used for the foundation layer of the turning area. Remaining fill material from the client's warehouse.
