We are an owner-managed family business in its second generation. We have short decision-making processes and prioritise communication on an equal footing.
In the same year that the world’s first daily newspaper was published in Leipzig and Rembrandt painted *The Man with the Golden Helmet*, a granary was built in Reckingen. It’s no wonder that the ravages of time have also taken their toll on this barn, which dates back to 1650. Now, the Volken Group has restored this historic structure—strictly in accordance with the guidelines of the historic preservation authorities. First, the 20-metric-ton building was supported with four steel beams, raised by about 20 cm on the east side, and realigned. Our specialists then underpin the lower part of the barn—which had been resting on an unstable natural stone wall—step by step. This required 30 cubic meters of concrete. Now the granary stands once again on a solid foundation and stands as a testament to Valais’s architectural tradition.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Widmer family for the project!
