Ready for any winter: The Täschwang Avalanche Diversion Dam

Even when impressive structures are called for, the Volken Group is on the job—currently at the Täschwang avalanche diversion dam in Täsch. For this project, no less than 45,000 m³ of material is being excavated, re-filled, and covered with 25,000 m² of topsoil. The project also includes an 860-meter-long access road and a safety netting system to protect passersby. The terrain is very steep, which is why a walking excavator is on site. To move this enormous amount of material, two large excavators, two large dump trucks, and an additional 16-metric-ton excavator are required. The only things that can interrupt the work are heavy rain or—as was the case last year—heavy snowfall.
