Before the mountain comes: rockfall protection

To ensure that the village of Kalpetran and the tracks of the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway continue to be protected from rockfall in the future, the Volken Group will be implementing various elements by autumn 2024. The existing construction road will be widened to a width of 3.5 m so that the earth embankment can be raised and optimized over a length of around 200 m - with an earth-reinforced supporting structure and a block throw. Work can only be carried out in this danger zone in good weather, and access via the MGB tracks is only possible with a 3-axle vehicle.
