Kipferwald / St. Niklaus

Road Resurfacing and Retaining Wall Repair

In the Kipferwald forest between Stalden and St. Niklaus, set amid a stunning, natural landscape between woods and a stream, a 680-meter section of the MGB roadway was renovated. In addition, the slope-side retaining structures are being repaired over a length of 420 meters and supplemented with a cordon for cable duct systems. New drainage systems are also being installed. The retaining wall on the mountain side is being further reinforced with ground anchors, and concrete ribs are being erected at regular intervals. The work is taking place under extremely cramped conditions while train service continues. Several trains pass the construction site in both directions every hour. This requires a sophisticated safety and logistics plan. Following the three-week total closure from October 25 to November 15, the construction work will be largely completed.
