Kipferwald / St. Niklaus

Road renewal and repair of retaining wall

In an impressive, near-natural landscape between forest and stream, the MGB roadway was renewed over a length of 680m in the Kipferwald between Stalden and St. Niklaus. In addition, the retaining structures on the slope side are now being repaired over a length of 420m and supplemented with a cordon for cable conduit systems. New drainage systems are also being installed. The retaining wall on the uphill side will also be reinforced with earth anchors and concrete ribs will be erected at regular intervals. The work is being carried out in extremely cramped conditions and during ongoing rail operations. Several trains pass the construction site in both directions every hour. This requires a sophisticated safety and logistics concept. After the 3-week total closure from 25.10. to 15.11., the construction work will be largely completed.
