Glis

It's half-time at the Glisergrund construction site

Last year, mainly shafts, pipe blocks and overhead line foundations were constructed in the Glisergrund. This year, the main focus will be on substructure work in the track field. The existing tracks will first be removed and then the existing foundation layer will be replaced with a new foundation layer that complies with the relevant standards, followed by a fine-grading layer and then a 7 cm thick AC-Rail covering layer.
AC-Rail is produced by VOWEG at the Leukerfeld plant and laid on site using a paver. This is followed by the final base layer, the ballast. Only then can the track system be installed again. The covering layer offers the advantage that the ballast can be easily removed during future renovations. When laying the surface, care is taken to ensure that it has a slope to the side so that the water can drain into the drainage pipes. In addition to the work in the track area, various conversions and new constructions are also being carried out in the workshops. All the work is progressing on schedule and we are confident that we will be able to complete the construction work at the heart of the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway on time.
